How to Calibrate the Salinity with Potassium Chloride?

Calibration

Is it necessary to calibrate the pH when I receive it?

Yes, please calibrate the pH before use.

The monitor should then be calibrated every 3-6 months thereafter since any monitor will produce errors over time.

How to disconnect the monitor from my phone?

Long press the right button for 3 seconds to disconnect your phone from the monitor.

How to connect to another phone when the old one is not used anymore?

  1. Please download the software ’Tuya‘ and complete the registration on your new cell phone in advance.
  2. Long press the middle connection button for 3 seconds and release it.
  3. You will hear three beeps, which means the monitor is in connection mode.
  4. Just click on 'Water Monitor' that appears in the ’Tuya‘ APP on your new phone.

Measurement

What should I do if the measurements are abnormal?

Please check the following situations:

1. Have you removed the protective cap of the probe before use?

2. Restore factory settings.

3. Re-calibration with calibration buffers.

Why do salinity fluctuate so much?

It is highly likely that the probe was placed in an area where water flow fluctuates significantly.

It is best to place the probe in an area where water flows relatively steadily.

When used in marine tanks:

  1. Do not place the probe near the protein skimmer. The skimmer produces a large number of microbubbles during operation, which can affect the sensor’s measurements, leading to lower readings.
  2. Please fix the probe in a location with stable water flow. Due to the presence of salt buildup or stratification in the water circulating through the filtration system, the salinity in the tank may not be as uniform as expected. The stronger the water flow, driven by the pump, the greater the salinity fluctuations around it.

Why do fluctuations remain smaller or more stable in freshwater tanks, even when the probe is placed in areas with strong water flow?

The main reason is that freshwater tanks contain fewer conductive particles. Marine tanks, on the other hand, have higher salt concentrations, and under uneven salinity conditions, even minor water flow can cause larger fluctuations in readings.

Why is my ORP showing negative?

3 Situations that can lead to negative ORP:

  1. The cord isn't plugged in tightly.
  2. Unstable power supply.
  3. There's a foreign object inside the probe.
